Job Overview

We’re building something new. Want to help turn ideas into reality?

Our Direct Venture team at Wawanesa is growing, and we’re looking for multiple Business Analysts to join us. You’ll have the opportunity to help design how a new direct insurer works, from the member experience through to the processes, rules and capabilities that make it all happen.

We’re looking for people who are naturally curious, love solving problems and aren’t afraid to dig into the details. You’ll connect the dots between members, the business and technology, helping take an idea from “what if?” to something real.

The Senior Business Analyst ensures business processes and systems are built on a clear, shared understanding of business and member needs. Partnering with Product Owners and delivery teams, the role leads analysis for complex initiatives, shapes and refines the backlog, and maintains business intent from discovery through implementation. The incumbent also serves as a resource to analysts and supported business areas.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead business analysis for complex initiatives spanning multiple processes, systems, or business areas, working independently through ambiguity.
  • Plan and facilitate workshops, interviews, and process walkthroughs with stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  • Analyze current- and future-state processes using member feedback, journey insights, and operational data to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Define business rules, epics, user stories, and clear, testable acceptance criteria in partnership with business owners.
  • Work with legal, compliance, risk, and control partners to identify requirements early and ensure they are reflected in delivery.
  • Facilitate alignment when stakeholder needs conflict and communicate business intent, recommendations, dependencies, and trade-offs.
  • Support Product Owners in shaping, refining, and prioritizing the backlog and breaking initiatives into delivery-ready features and stories.
  • Serve as a primary contact for business questions, resolving ambiguity and assessing the impact of new requests and changes.
  • Raise risks, issues, and dependencies early and keep stakeholders informed of progress and decisions.
  • Confirm solutions meet acceptance criteria and business intent; plan and coordinate business acceptance testing.
  • Define success measures and review member and operational results after implementation to confirm intended outcomes.
  • Identify impacts to processes, procedures, and roles, and support change management, training, and operational readiness.
  • Coach less experienced analysts and contribute to business analysis standards, templates, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of business analysis experience, including work in agile delivery environments with Product Owners and delivery teams.
  • Experience analyzing requirements for complex business systems and processes.
  • Strong facilitation, analytical thinking, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Jira and Confluence and comfort using AI-assisted tools in day-to-day work.
  • Experience in property and casualty insurance or another regulated financial services environment is an asset.
  • Business analysis certification (e.g., CBAP or CCBA) or insurance designation (e.g., CIP) is an asset.
