Working Business Language: This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal and external stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language for this role is English.  As such, the successful candidate must be fully proficient in English.

Job Overview

 

The Manager, National Catastrophe Response Team, contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of delivering an exceptional and consistent claims service experience.  As the Manager, National Catastrophe Response Team, you will provide oversight and direction to ensure optimal response to catastrophe (CAT) events and to maintain excellent customer service expectations. 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Lead Wawanesa’s response to CAT events, including direct management of events on behalf of affected regions.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service throughout all CAT operations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the National CAT Team and regional claims operations.
  • Provide technical and operational support to CAT team members.
  • Identify and address training and development needs within the department.
  • Conduct quality assurance file reviews and implement Claims Performance recommendations.
  • Participate in recruitment and selection of new CAT team members.
  • Oversee development and rollout of CAT-related training programs across regions.
  • Ensure compliance with Provincial Workplace Health and Safety regulations.
  • Review and approve reserves and payments exceeding team authority levels.
  • Provide ongoing management-level reporting on CAT losses (e.g., close-out rates, cycle-time reviews).
  • Analyze CAT Post Assessment Forms and apply lessons learned for continuous improvement.
  • Stay current with property repair procedures, materials, and industry trends.
  • Conduct performance and salary reviews for CAT Team Supervisors.
  • Travel as required to CAT events and team locations.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Property Claims, including CAT adjuster experience.
  • At least 2 years of people management experience.
  • College diploma or university degree (equivalent experience may be considered).
  • CIP designation or actively working toward it is preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in XactAnalysis and Xactimate.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid understanding of Provincial Workplace Health and Safety regulations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to foster teamwork and collaboration.
  • Experience with ClaimCenter is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel within Canada.
  • Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset.
