Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $140,000 - $160,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

The Commercial Auto Pricing team plays a key role in supporting the achievement of IRCA, Fleet, and Garage financial goals at Wawanesa. We are looking for an exceptional candidate to lead the transformation of Commercial Auto pricing at Wawanesa with focus on major rating model updates using advanced technology. Working under minimal supervision, the Commercial Auto Pricing Manager is to lead the pricing team in completing timely and thorough actuarial analysis for all commercial auto products written in all relevant jurisdictions by collaborating with internal and external business partners. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the pricing review of all commercial auto products with focus on pricing sophistication improvements. 
  • Recommend pricing strategies that vary by product types and regulatory frameworks.
  • Prepare necessary regulatory filings, ensuring the actuarial practices are consistent with accepted actuarial practice and correctly applied.
  • Remain up to date on current accepted methodologies and new emerging methodologies in insurance pricing.
  • Stay on top of market condition changes and apply the knowledge in pricing analysis.
  • Work with multiple areas of the company to identify profitable markets and design appropriate products.
  • Drive the design, testing, and maintenance of new pricing models and tools. 
  • Collaborate with IT on the system implementation of pricing changes.
  • Closely monitor portfolio performance and rate strategies effectiveness; proactively share findings and recommend solutions. 
  • Effectively communicate pricing analysis and recommendations to large audience including but not limited to underwriters and leadership team. 
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with all stakeholders including regulators.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to analysts on technical and non-technical skills and provide regular performance review feedback to direct reports. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned, handling special projects as assigned by Director, Commercial Actuarial Pricing.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate university degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics or other related field of study.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in actuarial pricing or a similar role in the P&C industry.
  • Commercial auto pricing experience an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Property & Casualty insurance industry and insurance operations in general.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, and the ability to synthesize and interpret data and insights.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to convey complex information in a simple and engaging way.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision.
  • Ability to proactively identify issues and initiate actions.
  • Adapts to change positively and effectively.
  • FCAS or FCIA an asset.
