Working Business Language: English. This role requires regular interaction with members and stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language utilized is English. As such, the successful candidate must be fully proficient in English.
Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $90,000 - $110,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview
As a Claims Technical Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting Wawanesa’s commitment to an exceptional claims experience by providing technical guidance, strengthening claims practices, and contributing to continuous improvement across the adjusting function.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance on complex property claims, including large loss, commercial, farm, litigation, catastrophic event, and other high-complexity files.
- Support claim strategy, coverage analysis, policy interpretation, reserving, investigations, settlement planning, and resolution recommendations.
- Promote consistent claims handling by supporting best practices, documentation standards, file quality expectations, and reserving approaches.
- Identify opportunities to reduce leakage and improve subrogation and salvage outcomes through file reviews, coaching, and practical feedback.
- Coach and mentor adjusters, supervisors, and leaders through case reviews, workshops, best-practice discussions, and technical learning support.
- Use quality results, reporting, and operational trends to recommend improvements and strengthen claims practices.
- Participate in large loss reviews, escalations, and complex claim decisions.
- Work with internal teams, legal counsel, external experts, vendors, and partners to align resources, manage expenses, and support strong claim outcomes.
- Contribute to national claims initiatives, process improvements, new workflows, technologies, and technical standards.
- Bring analytical, investigative, collaborative, and member-focused judgment to each file while influencing partners without direct authority.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of Property and Casualty insurance experience, including complex claims adjusting.
- Experience with commercial and farm claims, including subscription files.
- Knowledge of litigation and how it impacts claim strategy and resolution.
- Completed CIP designation or equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of coverage wordings, policy interpretation, case law, legislation, and insurance regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to review information, assess options, and recommend timely, practical solutions.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor information to different audiences and influence decisions.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to contribute to shared team goals.
- Ability and willingness to travel within Canada as needed.
