The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. Job Overview

As an Application Product Owner, you are passionate about crafting an exceptional application experience for our enterprise applications. You know how to critically assess the current applications, ‘think outside of the box’, and challenge others to build an optimized, frictionless experience putting our people, our brokers, and our members first.  You will be responsible for creation and evolution of a long-term application vision and associated roadmap that focuses on maximizing value and ensuring applications are utilized to their potential. You will work closely with a team of Insurance Product Owners, Application Delivery and Digital Delivery teams, Member Experience, and Business Development to deliver upgrades and new capabilities, and prioritize the application product backlog.  The Product Owner is empowered and has authority to make decisions, will consult with SMEs as required, and provide single approvals on behalf of key stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

  • Drive the creation of application product vision and roadmaps.  
  • Lead the implementation and delivery of new and enhanced capabilities for assigned enterprise application in support of strategic priorities.
  • Work closely with the business and operations teams to help optimize the application experience and understand where the friction points are within the application and address those items through backlog prioritization.
  • Lead application product backlog management – identifying, grooming, and prioritizing user stories and eliciting requirements from business partners.  Make critical product decisions related to features/functions, backlog prioritization and release planning.
  • Collaborate and liaise with external application partner to understand product roadmaps and opportunities for optimization.
  • Lead user acceptance testing activities for deliverables in your roadmap, as well as product upgrades.
  • Verify that the work produced by the team realizes the business value of each user story.
  • Define, measure, analyze and report on OKRs and KPIs, leveraging insights to prioritize key initiatives and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum ten years’ experience in property and casualty insurance.
  • Two to three years’ experience as a Product Owner and/or knowledge of agile/scrum product delivery methodologies.
  • Post-secondary degree in a related discipline and/or completion of Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or equivalent Property & Casualty designation is preferred.
  • Certification in relevant technology (e.g. Guidewire, Genesys, etc.) and/or processes (e.g. Scrum Product Owner – CSPO) considered an asset.
  • Passionate about delivering an exceptional user experience and with strong bias towards high quality delivery.
  • Strong business insight and proven ability to influence key stakeholders at all levels of the organization to capture necessary feedback and prioritize work.
  • Advanced analysis and conceptual thinking skills with the ability to conduct detailed analysis of information, and to select and implement best solutions.
  • Proficient at generating high quality documentation including user stories, use cases, flow diagrams and wire frames.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for audience and message.
  • Advanced attention to detail skills with the ability to develop relevant information, produce quality deliverables and identify potential impacts.
  • Excellent planning, organizing and time management skills, with the ability to develop roadmaps and project plans by prioritizing and multitasking.
  • Ability to work optimally within a geographically dispersed team and leverage knowledge across the organization.
  • Independent, able to work expertly with little supervision and with a high degree of self-motivation.
  • Prosci certification considered an asset.
