The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: CAD $82,000- $113,400. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

This opportunity either as an Application Developer II (intermediate) or Senior, will be part of our Core Application Delivery team and will contribute to the success of Wawanesa by maintaining, supporting, and enhancing business systems, applications & integrations.
The Insurance Suite team provides analysis and software development services with focus on enhancing the functionality of the Guidewire Insurance Suite.


The ideal candidate will enjoy working within a small agile scrum team model that facilitates rapid design, development and implementation of application changes that embodies a passion for continuous improvement and test-driven development.  You will have experience in client/server applications design and development and have relevant technical proficiency with software technologies/tools such as Java, preferably with Guidewire (Gosu). Preference will be given to individuals with Billing Center experience. 
 
Job Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test software.
  • Prepare technical specifications from requirements.
  • Ensure successful completion of development tasks by estimating and tracking progress of assigned work. 
  • Participate in planning activities including estimating and prioritization. 
  • Maintain the operation of business systems and applications.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve application incidents.
  • Estimate and track progress of assigned work.
  • Create and update relevant documentation.
  • Adopt, follow, and improve upon established practices, processes, and guidelines.
  • Keep current with relevant technologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in software development or related academic.
  • At least 2 years (preferably 4 or more) of practical experience performing an application development role building software using current programming languages (Guidewire/Gosu development experience and specifically Billing Center is considered an asset), working with relational database systems and object-oriented programming languages and software platforms such as Java. 
  • Good working knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Detail oriented with analytical and problem-solving skills to proactively recognize and identify issues, and take proper action to resolve them.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting the audience and message.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment by making quality contributions and supporting fellow team members.
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to self-manage a fluctuating workload within a fast-paced environment and changing priorities.
  • Effecting planning skills with the ability to develop and implement plans by prioritizing and multi-tasking. 
  • Possesses a willingness to learn while keeping abreast of developments in the field and have the ability to apply learning to new situations.
  • Experience using software development tools, such as JIRA, Confluence, Source Code Management and TeamCity is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Unix; Windows; Oracle; Microsoft SQL Server is considered an asset.
  • Certifications in relevant technology or processes considered an asset. 
  • Knowledge and experience in the Insurance Industry is considered an asset.
